Then read on to find out my top best practices and what to avoid when it comes to creating content that your followers will love! 🙌🏻

✔️ Get to know your audience

Many people will try to please everyone when they create content. It’s just not possible! Your content should not appeal to anyone and everyone. One of the best ways to ensure the content you're planning is relevant and 100% right is to ensure you know who you're speaking to.

YOU NEED TO CREATE CONTENT FOR YOUR ‘IDEAL’ AUDIENCE

Knowing and understanding your ideal audience / client or avatar is important because when you know who you are marketing to, you can then create content that will speak directly to them.

When you know your ideal audience, you can start to narrow down the kind of content or posts you need to post to identify with them. Every time you create a graphic, write a caption or record the video - you need to have your ideal client in mind.

How to identify your ideal client

You can refer to (or just imagine) an actual person you have recently connected with on Instagram, or it can be a current client or someone who regularly engages with your content. You can also create a new avatar - someone who resembles your ideal client.

How to create a client avatar 🤩

👉🏻 Give your Avatar a name - or simply choose one or two people that can fit the criteria of your ideal client.

👉🏻 Next, write out a list of the most common problems and obstacles that they encounter. What are their biggest challenges? What are the answers they are looking for? Write out a bullet-point list of all details that you can think of.

👉🏻 Always use your client avatar and keep this person in mind when you’re planning (and creating) your content - this will ensure that you’re always on track with creating content with their needs in mind.

✔️PROVIDE ANSWERS & SOLUTIONS TO YOUR AUDIENCE’S biggest PROBLEMS

The content your write needs to be of real & tangible value to your audience. What are their main struggles? What do they need help with the most? If you’re unsure how to get this information - use these 3 tips:

1. MAKE A LIST OF QUESTIONS

Make a list of frequently asked questions that people usually have about your business (or questions related to what you offer.) Then create content that answers these questions.

Use these questions to get you started:

👉🏻What are some questions people have asked about your business in the past?

👉🏻What questions do you wish people asked about your business?

👉🏻What do you think your ‘Ideal Client’ would ask prior to investing in your product or service.

2. Ask your audience on IG stories

Post a ‘questions’ sticker on Instagram stories and directly ask your audience about their current struggles.

3. Look for questions in your DM’s

Go into your Whats App & Instagram DM’s and reach out to clients (or potential clients) that you’ve recently spoken with. Ask them about their current struggles.

✔️create content that your audience wants to see

What will your audience absolutely love to see more of? The content you put out needs to resonate with your audience - you want them to save it, refer back to it, send and share it with their friends and family.

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

The best advice I can give you is this: keep a close eye on your Instagram Insights - and study your best-performing content. Make continuous adjustments according to what you see. If you’ve started doing more Reels and your insights are telling you it’s been shared and you’re getting plenty of comments - then do more Reels!

✔️DON’T USE TERMINOLOGY THAT YOUR AUDIENCE WON’T UNDERSTAND

Online and offline - if you use words and terminology that your audience doesn’t understand - you run the risk of creating a sense of disconnect. By using the same language and tone that your audience use, you can create connections without having to try anything too complex.

✔️BE CONSISTENT

It’s not enough to create great content now and again (or only when you have time). To connect with your audience you need to create content and show up every single day, adding value to your readers and helping them in some way. Whether it’s an Instagram Story, a blog post, a social media post, a weekly podcast or a video - you need to have content that is regular and consistent.

Posting 5-6 times a week is ideal if you’re just starting out and trying to build your following. This is important as it will help you to form important habits and also help with building momentum online. Over time your content will get more reach - but this is only possible when you post consistently.

✔️DON’T BE A PERFECTIONIST

Don’t stress about all your visuals and content being perfect. Don’t treat your Instagram page as an art gallery. Don’t stress about every single detail being perfect. Off-the-cuff content can work in your favour and make you more relatable with your audience.

You don’t need to have complete symmetry with your Instagram content. You can achieve balance simply by staying relevant and on-brand, whilst mixing images, videos and graphics.

✔️Avoid True but useless content

For any educational or ‘How to’ posts, and content where you are providing value before you publish anything - ask yourself the following question:

“What will the reader get out of this?”

Be sure your post benefits your audience. If you want to create content your audience will love and engage with - you have to lead with value. Aim to help them with a specific problem and provide actionable steps for them to take in order to solve it.
